Frequently Asked Questions
How long will the system last? What is the warranty?
Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels have a life expectancy of 40 to 50 years. The solar panels we install come with a 25-year warranty. We also include a 25-year workmanship warranty.
How durable are the solar panels? Can they withstand hail?
Solar PV panels are surprisingly durable and can withstand hail. During the hail storm in April 2012, there was tennis ball size hail and none of our customers called to report damage to their solar panels. We called a few of our customers to make sure there wasn’t any damage and they all confirmed that the panels came through unscathed. One customer said there was hail damage to some shingles around the solar array but not a scratch on the panels. The solar panels actually protected the roof! Most manufacturer’s guarantee the solar panels can survive up to marble-sized hail, but they have proved even more durable in the real world.
Can solar really eliminate my electric bill?
Yes! We have many customers that have reduced their electric bill to zero. However, the amount of electricity usage reduced is different for every house and depends on the size of your system, roof configuration, and energy usage profile. From day one, your electric meter will spin backwards and you will be selling electricity back to your utility.
Do I need batteries?
No, batteries are not needed. 90% of the installs we do are grid-tied, net-metered systems without batteries. However, we can also include a battery bank as an add-on to supply electricity to specific appliances during a power outage. The battery bank can be installed during the original install or at a later date.
If I don’t have batteries, will I lose power at night or when it’s cloudy?
No, you will not experience power interruptions when the sun goes down or when it’s cloudy. Since you are still connected to the utility grid, you will have power as you always have.
What type of maintenance is required?
There shouldn’t be any maintenance needed if the system is installed correctly. That is why it is so important to have the system installed by a professional like RegenEn Solar. You just sit back and watch your system produce maintenance-free clean energy for decades!
How long does the installation take?
For residential systems we can usually get started within three weeks of the initial conversation. The actual installation typically takes between three and five business days, depending on weather conditions.
What if I want to replace my roof after the solar panels have been installed?
The solar panels can easily be taken off and re-installed if the roof needs to be replaced down the road. RegenEn Solar offers this service at a low price.
